The Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company was as unique as it was organized during World War II to protect the community and Upper Merion Township as part of civilian defense.Īt the time, Swedesburg was Upper Merion’s most heavily populated area with over 1,000 residents and with many industries, which were producing materials for the war.Īfter its organization on February 16, 1942, weekly meetings were held alternately in Polonia Hall and the American Citizens Club.
